SARS-CoV-2 Spike S2 Protein
The SARS-CoV-2 viral spike protein is a surface glycoprotein encoded by the S gene.
The SARS_CoV-2 spike protein has a furin cleavage site which following cleavage results in the production of two segments: S1 and S2.
Each segment has its own biological activity.
The S1 segment known as the globular section, mediates attachment of CoV to the ACE-2 receptor, via the receptor binding domain (RBD). S2, known as the biomembrane-anchored stalk domain and promotes SARS-CoV-2–human cell fusion.
The SARS-CoV-2 Spike S2 is a recombinant protein containing amino acids 687 – 1273 encoded by the S gene sequence, with a C-terminal 6xHis tag.
The protein is manufactured in HEK293 cells with greater than 95% purity.
